BJC2006
Back from BJC and a wonderful time was had (apart from the nasty case of tonsilitis I have).
Workshops:
1 - Injury prevention and advice - I'm now quite sure that this workshop is probably not needed. The advice can be offered as part of other workshops. Too much talking from me and not enough to do practically. Would work as part of a day long session.
2 - Control and stability - Ooh this was a good one. I enjoyed it. The Chocfest one lasted 90 minutes. This one ended up at 2.5 hours. The majority stayed for most of it too. Some interesting shoulders (one in particular) and lots of time taken to show what's going wrong. If you were at this then I'd love some feedback on how you felt it was for you. The responses I had afterwards were all positive. If you didn't find it useful or interesting then I'd like to know how to improve it further.
Clinic time: Met loads of folk and gave plenty of advice out to all. One or two odd cases and some pretty basic stuff. If you asked me anything and want more info then get in touch.
Have fun.

Attended your stability workshop (for the second time - I was at Chocfest too). Still learnt a lot and am working on improving my shoulder stability.
This is made easier by the fact that my left shoulder is now almost fully functional after my visit on Saturday morning. The shoulder is a bit sore, just as you said it would be, but the sharp pains at the edge of range are gone. Many thanks.
Next time, a lower back workshop for sitting on hard gym floors is a must!!!

thanks so much for the shoulder workshop, am still having huge problems and would love some more advice on what i can do to help. my shoulder blade seems more pronounced than i noticed before but that may be because I am more aware of it now. sorry for being a weird case but the workshop was great and hope u continue with them. i wish there were more things like that about.

I'll be at the Birmingham con on 6th May so if you see me there then I'll have another chat with you.
Basic advice is "get it seen". I think you really need a physio to work damn hard with you on rehab or possibly an orthopaedic doctor to have a look at it. I don't think one-off advice is quite enough.
All the best.

just wondering if you're going to be at the crawley circus festival this year in august.

Easy answer is "don't know yet" sorry.
I've just spent the day at a conference about this sort of thing. I'll do a write-up soon so that should give you a bit of info.
Send me an email for more specific stuff though.

hiya, well I went to the physio yesterday after a long wait and they pretty much repeated what u said. I now have my shoulder taped and have to change it every 3 days, plus some exercises to strengthen the muscles round the scapula to start with. Is this sort of what u would do? I know u wanted to do the tape stuff at the bjc...

News: I probably will be at Crawley. Not saying definite but certainly likely.
Taping: there are a few different ways of taping so I'd need to know a little more here.
Exercises: With you I'd be working purely on scapular control exercises. I wouldn't even think of doing rotator cuff work yet. Are they making you use a theraband (bit of rubber) to do exercises? If you are then what exactly are you doing? Remember to stop doing any shoulder exercise whenever it hurts. You can always have another go later when the pain has eased.
Hope this is useful.

Hiya, didn't get to speak to you on sunday at crawley but am still wondering about stanmore. What sort of info would you need? I would email you but dunno ur ad so thought this was easier. And just for a laugh if u ever want an example of shoulder instability...feel free to use me! It's not exactly gonna be a quick fix.
